On one of the most spectacular waterfront locations in Taveuni Estates, Vale Mudre is made from local materials and blends effortlessly into the lush surrounds. The interior style is rustic chic with traditional Fijian thatching on the ceilings, local hardwood floors and exposed pine poles and ceiling rafters. The living room opens completely to the views of the ocean and neighbouring islands and highlights the relationship to the natural environment, blurring the distinction between the interior and exterior.

The completely open-plan kitchen/living arrangement reveals itself from the large foyer from which you enter Vale Mudre. Here you can sit on the sofa and gasp at the phenomenal view or lounge in a discrete Balinese day bed where interior palms draw your eyes to the exterior gardens and beyond to the ocean.

The master bedroom suite features a large ensuite, outdoor shower, office area and private sitting room and yet retains a feeling of quaint luxury. Wooden louvres surround the room and expose the, once again, incredible views. A second wing includes two guest bedrooms, each with ensuite bathrooms and outdoor showers.

Outside, the attention to detail is just as noticeable. Garden steps descend through a tropical fern garden to the front door, from where you can see through the foyer and living room to the ocean beyond. To either side of the house, palm gardens and tropical flowers are strategically placed such that they are equally enjoyable from both inside the house and out.

But as with any waterfront home, the main attraction remains beyond the front boundary of the land, where volcanic rocks descend into a snorkeller’s paradise. A garden path also leads to a nearby black sand beach that remains completely private with a gradual descent into the gently lapping waves. The house also comes with a fully-equipped boat to explore the Somosomo straits and surrounding islands, fish to your hearts content and sample some of the best diving in the world.
